4D-Nucleofector® Software updates and PC Editor software

The 4D-Nucleofector® Software is pre-installed on your 4D-Nucleofector® Core Unit. It comprises various functionalities:

Operating software (firmware) - Controlling the interaction between the Core Unit and its functional units (X, Y or LV Unit) and pulse execution
Graphical user interface - For programming and execution of an experiment
Lonza programs list - Defining the Nucleofector™ Programs and the cell type list for direct selection of the cell-type specific Lonza optimized protocol
Template parameter files - A set of Lonza defined parameter files for ready-to use optimization experiments

In addition, we have a 4D-Nucleofector® PC Editor which is a PC-compatible version of the 4D-Nucleofector® User Interface. It can be used to define experiments on the PC and then transfer them to the 4D-Nucleofector® System via USB stick. Furthermore, you can download parameter files (experiments) or result file from the 4D-Nucleofector® System and view these in the PC editor or print them.

Software updates

Due to new Optimized Protocols added to the Lonza Program list or technical improvement of the operation software, your 4D-Nucleofector® System may require an update of its program list or the whole firmware. Depending on the software version currently running on your 4D-Nucleofector® System, you either can update it yourself or the Core Unit needs to be shipped to Lonza for updating.

Do I work with the most recent version?

To check if the software version of your system is the most recent one, please go to “Settings > Version” and fill in the form so that our Scientific Support Team can either confirm whether this is the most recent version or provide you with the appropriate update version for your system. When filling the form please also specify whether you work with the standard software version or the 4D-Nucleofector® LogWare*.

Update instructions:

For updating your system (or re-installing your current version) please proceed as follows:

Start the 4D-Nucleofector® System
Once the “Choose a Device” main screen appears, click on the Core Unit icon.
Select “Firmware Update” within the “Settings” menu.
A dialog box will appear asking to plug in the USB stick.
Plug in the USB stick containing the new firmware and press “UPD”.
After the Core Unit update has been finished, the Core Unit reports that an attached functional unit (X, Y or LV Unit) needs an update.
To run the update for the respective unit press .
The Core Unit will report the successful update. Select to close the message box.
In case there is more than one functional unit attached to the existing system, a few seconds later the Core Unit will ask to update the next unit.
IMPORTANT: This time press !!
Shut down the Core Unit using the shut-down icon and switch it off.
Restart the system.
Once the Core Unit has started it will ask again to update the next unit. Now press to update the second functional unit.

* The 4D-Nucleofector® LogWare is the 21 CFR part 11 compliant software for the 4D-Nucleofector® System for transfection applications in upstream GMP manufacturing environments.
